Dubai, UAE, 19 Jan 2020: Under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), SIKKA Art Festival is the Authority’s flagship initiative and a pillar event of Dubai Art Season. On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of SIKKA, Dubai Culture announces that the selected artists whose proposals have been accepted to be displayed inside the houses inside Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood, will be working under the guidance of a curator: Giuseppe Moscatello and Asma Khalid Belhamar, the project’s assistant curator who will shadowing him as part of Dubai Culture’s ongoing efforts to support emerging Emirati talent. The pair will work with the artists to produce interactive and engaging art and design installations, that will transform the neighbourhood.

Moscatello and Belhamar will advise the artists to express their visionary projects for the city in innovative ways, which will have a lasting impact and pave the way for the future as well as ensuring that visitors have their most memorable experience of the festival to date.

Giuseppe Moscatello is a cultural developer with over 15 years of extensive experience in the UAE and Italy. He was co-founder of Maraya Art Centre and 1971 Design Space in Sharjah and now has his own cultural agency Evolve. He commented: "Dubai is an extraordinary city, which is constantly in a transitional phase and continuously evolving. As the curator for SIKKA 2020, my goal is to keep pace with the fast-evolving technologies and needs of human behavior as well as ensure community engagement. We wish to give participants the chance to express themselves without limitations in as many ways as possible and through this platform, we look forward to working alongside them to maximise their impact upon the whole city."

Asma Khalid Belhamar is a visual artist and an educator who was born and raised in Dubai. Her design-based practice is based in an interest in urban development as well as surface and pattern design.
