The Dubai Festival for Youth Theatre Concludes the First Workshop on Drama Script Writing


Dubai, United Arab Emirates: 12 July 2017: Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), the Emirate’s dedicated entity for culture, arts and heritage, successfully concluded the first workshops of Dubai Festival for Youth Theatre 2017 which was held from the 02nd to the 08th of July.

The festival is organised in collaboration with the Higher Institute of Theatrical Arts in Cairo which runs till the end of November this year and includes a number of workshops which aim to nurture the most promising theatre talent in the UAE, including directors, script writers, actors, technical professionals and experts in costumes, lighting and make-up.

The first workshop was dedicated towards Theatrical Drama Script Writing and was led by Dr. Essam Abdel Aziz. The workshop held at the Al Twar branch of Dubai Public Library was attended by a high number of participants seeking to enhance their skills in writing theatre scripts, harnessing scripts to capture dramatic conflict, dramatic construction, improvisation, and different types of drama.

The first of the two other workshops in scheduled to be held in July will focus on Voice & Language for Actors & Presenters and will be headed by Prof. Lyn Darnley. The workshop will be held from 10th till 12 of July at Dubai Production City, In5 building supported by Dubai Studio City. During this workshop, participants can have an expert explanation on the methods for correct pronunciation and breathing during performances and ceremonies. In addition, the second coming workshop during the month of July will educate participants on theoretical and practical topics related to ‘Theatrical Costumes’ and will be led by Dr. Laila Maghrabi. The location of the workshop is at Al Twar branch branch of the Dubai Public Library and will be running from the 16th until the 23rd of July.

The Dubai Festival for Youth Theatre aims to develop the talents of the participants through academic workshops conducted by theatre experts. The highly recommended workshops are intended to help students advance their skills and showcase excellence in the art of specialized theatre.
