Dubai Culture offers an exciting array of cultural and recreational activities for children aged 6 to 13 at its Al Shindagha Museum Summer Camp, which will run over two weeks, the first from 15 to 19 July and the second from 22 to 26 July.
During the camp, children will enjoy a series of stories narrating the experiences of their ancestors and how they overcame the challenges of the desert climate by innovating the ‘barjeel’. They will embark on an extensive journey following the footsteps of the inhabitants of Al Shindagha Historic Neighbourhood, discovering the design of its alleyways and houses. Additionally, they will learn about ‘Al Hawi’, which transported water to homes using metal containers, and participate in a treasure hunt, practising traditional fishing techniques.
The camp agenda includes numerous maritime adventures, introducing participants to pearl and oyster harvesting methods and the motivational role of sea shanties during fishing and pearl diving trips. In the Trade Challenge, they will be taught bartering skills, seller and merchant negotiation techniques, and how to load goods onto boats.
