Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), in collaboration with ELF Publishing, is organising the launch of Emirati poet Shamma Faisal Al Bastaki’s poetry collection ‘House to House’ on Saturday, 25 October 2025 at the Etihad Museum in Dubai. The event is a Library Talks initiative, which falls under the umbrella of the School of Life project.

The book documents the memories and oral stories of the people of Dubai Creek between the 1940s and 1980s, evoking details of everyday life through poetic expression that reflects identity, belonging, and the memory of place. The collection is inspired by real conversations conducted by the poet with elders and long-time residents of the area.

The launch event will feature a poetry reading and dialogue session with Shamma Al Bastaki, moderated by Laila Binbrek, Director of the UAE National Pavilion at La Biennale di Venezia, and will conclude with a book-signing ceremony.

The event reflects Dubai Culture’s commitment to supporting Emirati literature, while embodying its efforts to preserve the emirate’s oral memory, in line with its vision of positioning Dubai as a global centre for culture, an incubator for creativity, and a thriving hub for talent.
