Dubai Public Library Winter Camp: Unique Experiences Blending Art and Science

Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) is offering a series of unique experiences blending art and science at the Dubai Public Library Winter Camp, hosted at Al Safa Art and Design Library, Al Rashidiya Library, Al Twar Library, Umm Suqeim Library, Al Mankhool Library, and Hatta Library from 16 to 27 December under the theme ‘Little Explorers’. Under the guidance of experts and specialists, children will create marine-inspired art sculptures, design and decorate pottery celebrating local nature, and learn about the UAE’s national tree, the Ghaf. Activities also include mirror painting, designing space-themed artworks, using colours and stencils, and engaging in innovative and educational workshops.

The camp is designed for children aged 5 to 14, with workshops divided into two age groups: 5 to 9 years and 10 to 14 years. Throughout the camp, participants will explore virtual reality adventures, delving into topics like space and astronomy, weather measurement, sustainable city design, and excavation techniques. They will build hydraulic systems to understand fluid mechanics, create biodegradable materials, and invent optical devices to explore light transmission and image formation. Children will also uncover the mysteries of chemical reactions and biological analyses in problem-solving activities. The camp also features interactive games and challenges, with special prizes awarded to winners, ensuring a fun, enriching experience that inspires learning and creativity.

The camp will also host the Second-Hand Book Fair, held this year at Al Mankhool Public Library. Open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Fridays, the fair offers a wide selection of quality books at nominal prices ranging from AED 2 to AED 10. The initiative promotes the sustainability of books through community exchange while fostering a culture of reading and knowledge-sharing.

The registration fee for Dubai Public Library members is AED 210, while non-members pay AED 420. Individuals and families can obtain library memberships through the following link: https://dpl.dubaiculture.gov.ae/en/user/register.
