Dubai Culture has launched the ‘Stories of Wulfa’ competition, aimed at empowering talent to develop and produce an animated series inspired by Emirati culture and values. The initiative comes as part of the Authority’s support for the ‘Season of Wulfa’ and its commitment to fostering a creative environment that enables talent to transform their ideas into original works that contribute to the growth of the cultural and creative industries.

Through the competition, Dubai Culture seeks to produce an animated series comprising 15 episodes, each approximately 20 minutes long, reflecting Emirati culture and its authentic values. The Authority has invited artists, independent creatives, writers, illustrators, directors, designers, filmmakers, animation studios, production companies, and local, regional and international creative teams to submit original concepts that embody the spirit of ‘Wulfa,’ reflect the values of belonging and family connection, and showcase the richness of Emirati cultural heritage.

Applications will be accepted from 7 September until 15 November 2026. Submissions will be evaluated according to a set of criteria, including storytelling quality, cultural authenticity and originality, visual direction and character development, relevance to Emirati culture, production readiness, and broadcast potential. The winning project will receive AED 2 million in funding to support its development, production, and showcase as part of the ‘Season of Wulfa.’

Submissions must present innovative concepts distinguished by creative character development, reflect the richness and diversity of Emirati culture, and have the ability to engage different segments of society. Proposals should outline the series concept and key themes, the target audience, the educational and cultural value, the creative vision, the storytelling approach, character development, and the potential for future expansion. They should also include synopses for the series episodes, a complete script for the first episode, and samples showcasing the applicant’s animation skills.
