Dubai, UAE, Oct 10, 2019: Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) hosted a workshop to help professional and aspiring authors to improve their fictional writing skills. Taught by Mohamed Jassim Al Serkal, a professional creative writer the workshop was titled: Introduction to Short stories and Building Characters.
Presented over two days, the first day asked the participants to question what storytelling means, how to get the reader’s attention and how to inject the tale with emotions and perspective. The second day focused on creating powerful characters that resonate with audiences. It helped writers to create an audience and environment for their characters and encouraged them to go beyond their limits.
Mohamed J. Al Serkal is an established author who has been writing since the age of nine when he was influenced by the work of Jacqueline Wilson. He believes that fiction writing straddles the line between creativity and reality and in 2015, he published his first novel, Shallow, which followed the tale of a young girl trying to discover the truth about her mysterious life.
The workshop was conducted in English and was open to participants aged 15 and above.
