This agreement is in line with Dubai Culture's broader strategy, which aims to provide high quality facilities to support creativity, innovation and cultural exchange. The Authority will ensure visitors to Dubai Culture sites will be informed about the availability of the new services provided by du with dedicated and informative signage. This will assist guests in connecting to the Internet, in turn aiding interaction with events and initiatives which are consistently launched by the entity through its digital platforms.
Acting Director of Information Technology Department of Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), Mohamed Yousif Al Hammadi said: "We are proud to ink this agreement with du, to provide instant and free internet connection services to visitors to all of our cultural and heritage sites across the Emirate of Dubai. This effort comes in line with Dubai Smart City initiative launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, aiming to use the latest advanced in technologies to transform Dubai into the world's smartest city through facilitating live information and services that are easily accessible by residents and visitors. We are confident that this facility will contribute to enhancing the overall visitor experience to cultural and heritage sites, keeping them connected with online information sources provided by the Authority's digital platforms. In addition, we are keen to motivate visitors to participate in our cultural events and interact with our social media platforms, by taking pictures and posting comments and tweets."
This agreement will see du install wireless internet connection points in culture and heritage locations across Dubai, to provide WiFi UAE services for users. In addition du will be responsible for the control, maintenance, testing and operation functions, and will provide the necessary network capacity to meet expansion requirements. WiFi UAE expects to enable WiFi connectivity through more than 300 locations by the end of the year. du offers users two types of internet connection; WiFi UAE is a free outdoor WiFi service, while WiFi UAE Premium is a paid service that allows users a higher speed for a very affordable price. It is already available at a number of hotspots in Dubai including public transport locations such as the Dubai Metro and Dubai Tram and high-traffic areas like The Dubai Mall and Emaar Boulevard Downtown Dubai.
"At du we believe that ubiquitous connectivity will pave the way for a happier nation as envisioned by the UAE Leadership, and our aim is to ensure that all members of the community have access to free WiFi UAE in all public places throughout the Emirates," said Carlos Domingo, Senior Executive Officer of New Business and Innovation, du. "We are pleased to partner with Dubai Culture to ensure that all visitors remain connected so that they can share their experiences and stay connected with friends and family, here and abroad."
