Dubai, UAE, 24February 2020: Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) today announces the launch of ‘Innovation Week’ under Dubai Public Libraries. Taking place 22 – 27 February, Innovation Week falls in line with UAE Innovation Month, which occurs every February as part of a UAE-wide activation to encourage new ways of thinking, creativity, and to foster problem-solving skills. Innovation Week, by Dubai Public Libraries, aims to celebrate creativity across the nation and strengthen the country's position as a global hub for the development of new skills, which embodies the visions of the leadership in adopting a widespread culture of innovation across government and private sectors as well as within society as a whole.
Under the slogan ‘Let's innovate and learn,’ Dubai Culture’s Innovation Week will take place at Al Twar, Al Mankhool, Um Suqeim, and Al Safa Arts & Design Public Libraries, with a rich and varied programme aimed at children 6 – 12 years old. Dubai Public Libraries, through Innovation Week, strives to stimulate children's creative thinking and develop their skills with specialised interactive workshops, creative arts, and scientific activities. It also aims to promote awareness of the importance of innovation and its impact on the future of children.
Under the announcement of 2020 as the year of preparation, Innovation Week hopes to involve children with the concepts to contribute in designing the future and enriching the quality of life in the UAE in preparation for the next fifty years. As well as attracting new visitors to the Dubai Public Libraries, Dubai Culture is also hosting workshops and sessions on modern trends of technology and innovation.
The first day of Innovation the children visited the libraries, Following this, workshops will take place daily between 9am and 12:30pm until the end of the event on Thursday, 27 February.
On Tuesday 25 February, the day at Al Safa Art & Design Library begins with the Be A Newsreader session from 9am to 2.30pm. All classes at the other libraries also run from these times with Umm Suqeim Library hosting Robot-Sphere, Al Mankhool Library running Makey-Makey Masterminds and Al Twar Library showing children how to make compasses in The Path Finder project.
On Wednesday 26 February, The Path Finder will run at Al Safa Art & Design Library between 9am and 2.30pm. At Umm Suqeim Library, participants will take part in the Makey-Makey Masterminds session, at Al Mankhool Library they will learn how to Be A Newsreader and in Al Twar it is a day for coding with the Robot-Sphere session.
The last day of Innovation Week takes place on Thursday 27 February and the final days sessions will be: Robot-Sphere at Al Safa Art & Design Library; Be A News Reader at Umm Suqeim Library; The Path Finder at Al Mankhool; and Makey-Makey Masterminds over at Al Twar Library. As with the other weekdays, these classes run from 9am to 2:30pm at the respective libraries.
