Dubai Programme for Youth Theatre Artistically Concludes Theatrical Make-Up Workshops

Dubai, United Arab Emirates: 15 August 2017: Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), the Emirate’s dedicated entity for culture, arts and heritage, has successfully concluded its Dubai Programme for Youth Theatre theatrical make-up workshops, which ran from 1st to 10th August at the Dubai Media Production Zone.

The workshops were attended by participants from various local theatre groups in the UAE, as well as university students and members of the public, who were expertly guided by Dr. Faisal Mahmoud. Students learnt about the creative and artistic aspects of using prosthetic limbs, wigs and other false additions; the different types of characters that can be captured with straight make-up; and the benefits of using visual effects to enhance the overall feel of theatre performances.

As part of the workshops, students were also given the opportunity to learn from live make-up demonstrations on actors, and to create theatrical face masks with a variety of different tools.

The Dubai Programme for Youth Theatre aims to develop the talents of participants through academic workshops conducted by theatre experts. The highly recommended workshops help students to advance their skills and achieve excellence in specialised theatre arts.

The Programme is organised in collaboration with the Higher Institute of Theatrical Arts in Cairo and runs until the end of November. This year’s programme includes a number of workshops that aim to nurture the most promising theatre talent in the UAE, including directors, script writers, actors, technical professionals and experts in costumes, lighting and make-up.

Dubai Culture aims to enhance Dubai’s cultural scene and draw attention to the Emirate’s rich heritage with a variety of initiatives that take place throughout the year. The Authority’s mandate is to build bridges of constructive dialogue between different civilisations and cultures through enriching initiatives that benefit the Emirate’s citizens, residents and visitors.
