Dubai Culture hosts a session on role of literary agents in publishing industry
The specialised session was held by the Literature Department of the
Authority and was titled ‘Literary Agent: concept & measures’
Dubai United Arab Emirates June 28, 2019: Highlighting the role of a literary agent in publishing industry and in an author’s journey, the Literature Department of Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) hosted a specialised session titled ‘Literary Agent – concept and measures’ on 26th June 2019 at the Reel Cinema, in The Dubai Mall.
Moderated and presented by famous author Mana'a Al Maeeni, the session highlighted on the role of a literary agent in promoting and improving the literary works of the authors and in the overall publishing process. The session was held in line with Dubai Culture’s commitment to widen the creative horizons of the community in order to strengthen the Emirate’s creative economy.
The session invited writers, authors, editors, and other literary and cultural professionals to explore and understand the concept and the role of a literary agent as a mediator between the authors and the publishers. It also talked about related topics like the role of literary agents in different parts of the world, the rights of a literary agent, details about some of the famous literary agents and their contributions in the respective developed countries.
It is notable that Al Maeeni is a famous Emirati author, credited with 8 literary works, and is known for his important contributions in promoting other writers and helping them in distribution of their works by raising awareness about the literary agents and their significance in the sector. During the session, he will used his experience to enrich the knowledge of participants.
Later, the session ended with a literature comedy show by artists Abdullah Abu Abed and Abdullah Al-Jafali.
With such sessions, Dubai Culture seeks to enable a healthy idea and knowledge exchange in the society and its individuals and bring up new concepts that enhance literary creativity. The specialised session aimed to underline how a literary agent supports the authors and works alongside them – right from the creation of the first draft until the final process of publishing, thereby making sure the literary works reach the right audience and garner the desired response.
