Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), the Emirate's dedicated entity for heritage, arts and culture, commissioned three UAE based architects to design its stand for its participation in Art Dubai.
The stand's unique design inspires elements from the natural landscape, introduced as a periphery marked by material manipulation, surface treatment and indigenous plants such as the Ghaff, Chikoo, Parkinsonia and Acacia. The space acts as an undulating form where the floor transforms into an organic surface.
The design was the collective work of Meitha Al Mazrooei, Hatem Hatem and Fortune Penniman. Meitha is the editor of WTD Magazine, a biannual architecture publication that documents the existing landscapes of the region through visual essays and critical narratives. Fortuné Penniman is a Dubai-based architect who graduated from the Architectural Association in London and is currently working on research and design projects in the Gulf region. The Third architect is Hatem Hatem, an architect who investigates the potential of design through the use of digital and material systemic processes.
Art Dubai is a flagship event of Dubai Art Season, organized under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Latifa Bint Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture).
The umbrella arts initiative by Dubai Culture plays a critical role in celebrating regional and international talents, while providing both established and existing designers a credible platform on which to display their work and avail unparalleled opportunities for growth.
The coveted event coincides with Art Dubai, Dubai Culture organizes SIKKA Art Fair, an artist-led fair of commissioned works by Emirati, UAE and GCC-based artists.
